The Friends of the Chemung River Watershed will host a Chemung River trail hike from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 13 beginning at the Elmira Town Hall parking lot, 1255 W. Water St., to teach participants about invasive species threatening the river environment.
The hike is free and part of New York State Invasive Species Awareness Week, which helps to teach the public about invasive species including insects, plants and animals and what the public can do to reduce the spread of these organisms.
The walk is less than one mile on a hard packed soil trail on mostly flat terrain. Attendees should wear hiking boots, sneakers or hard soled shoes; and should bring bug spray, water and snacks. No pets, smoking or alcohol will be allowed. For more information or to register, contact Carrick Palmer at email@example.com.
