A house under construction on Eastern Avenue in Schenectady collapsed Wednesday. No one was injured.
Daily Gazette staff photographer Peter R. Barber was at the house at 1191 Eastern Ave., near Plymouth Avenue, and shared his observations:
The house was stripped and a foundation was being poured at the time of the collapse. A truck tried to exit the property and “the whole thing just gave way,” Barber observed. An excavator could be seen partially buried outside the house, which was “basically on stilts,” he said.
There were occupants inside — it’s unknown how many — but they were able to exit before the collapse.
Eastern Avenue was blocked between Brandywine and Plymouth avenues.
National Grid arrived on scene shortly after.
