SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> The final phase of a major renovation project on the historic Adelphi Hotel is taking longer than expected.
The Adelphi Hotel, located at 365 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs, will not be open in time for track season.
Construction started at the Adelphi Hotel in January of 2015, and is still underway.
“Construction has proven to be our most intricate yet difficult task,” an Adelphi Hospitality Group spokesperson said on why the project was delayed. “With a focus on excellence for all guests we wanted to ensure everything was in top shape before opening the hotel. Our vision is to recreate The Adelphi into the jewel of Broadway it use to be.”
The company had previously announced that the site would be reopen to the public in spring 2017.
Then the owners were hoping to be open by the start of Saratoga Race Course’s 2017 meet , which will begin on Friday, July 21.
“We would have loved to welcome our guests with the vibrance of Saratoga’s track season. Saratoga Springs is a special town year-round, but there is something magical about this place during the summer,” the spokesperson said.
“I think all of us were hopeful and optimistic that they would be open, but there are some things beyond our control,” said Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce President Todd Shimkus.
Now the Adelphi Hotel is aiming for this summer, the company said, though it is not taking any reservations yet.
