ALBANY, N.Y. >> A Mexican man arrested in Saratoga Springs was sentenced Friday to time served (46 days in jail) for illegally re-entering the United States.
Rufino Ramirez De Jesus, 31, also faces deportation proceedings, according to the release from Acting United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith.
As part of his guilty plea, the release said, Ramirez De Jesus admitted that he illegally returned to the United States after he was removed to Mexico on Feb. 22, 2014. Ramirez De Jesus had previously been removed to Mexico on Oct. 22, 2012.
Ramirez De Jesus was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Saratoga Springs on May 30.
After the sentencing, Ramirez De Jesus was put in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, which will place him into removal proceedings.
This is the latest sentencing to take place following the spate of arrests made by ICE in the Spa City in May and June.
Authorities said 27 people were arrested, some of whom face felony charges for re-entry after deportation.
The arrests were cheered by some people, while others expressed a variety of concerns about the matter.
Earlier this week, two other Mexican citizens arrested in Saratoga Springs were also sentenced to time served and will face deportation proceedings.
