Schuyler plans corn-eating contest, car show, fireworks – New York News

So how much corn on the cob can you eat in one minute?

If you believe it’s a lot, then head over to Schuyler’s 19th annual Extravaganza & Classic Car Show Saturday, August 5, at 282 Wood Lane and try to take the title away from Erin Simonds.

The winner will receive $1,000 and have their name engraved on the Corn King Belt. The belt was designed by Andrew Lazarchik, who has made belts for Hulk Hogan and worldwide boxing events.

Competitors, who must be at least 18 years old, can qualify between 5 and 8 p.m. by eating as much corn as they can for 60 seconds. Then at 8:30 p.m., the top four finishers and the current champion face off in a 90 second session for the championship.

Other event highlights include: A car show that also offers cash prizes; musical performance by Jon Liebing and the Blues Brothers; a special visit by the Northeat Sasquatch Reasearch Society; a 50/50 drawing; facepainting; bounce houses; hula hoop contest; vendors; a petting zoo; and a tractor display. The evening is capped off with a fireworks.

New to the event this year are outside food vendors A Taste of Utica, Mr. McGill’s and Orchard Farms.

Parking and admission is free

The event is hosted by the Town of Schuyler and the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department.
