AMSTERDAM — Amsterdam police are investigating a large weekend fight in which five men suffered stab wounds, police said.
Each of the victims was taken to the hospital where they were treated and released, after the 2:45 a.m. Saturday incident near Gerard’s, a Bridge Street bar. None of the five was cooperating with police, police said.
No arrests have been made related to the stabbings, but two women face charges because of incidents that happened after police arrived. One woman is accused of preventing police from getting to a victim, and the other is accused of trying to prevent the first woman’s arrest.
The initial call to Gerard’s, at 68 Bridge St., was about a large fight taking place there. Officers arrived to find several people involved in an altercation in the parking lot near the establishment. Officers began breaking up the crowd and attempted to check on a man who had been stabbed. That is when a woman, identified as Angela Santos, 26, of 70 Arnold Ave., Amsterdam, screamed and attempted to prevent officers from assessing the victim, police said.
Police charged Santos with disorderly conduct, a violation, and misdemeanor resisting arrest, as well as obstructing governmental administration.
As police arrested Santos, her sister, Christina Santos, 23, of Hampton, Virginia, tried to prevent the arrest by grabbing one of the officers around the neck and pushing the officer away, police said. Christina Santos was charged with harassment.
