Storms rumble through, knocking out power to 5,000 – New York News

Close to 5,000 National Grid customers in the Capital Region were without power early Monday evening as a series of sometimes-severe thunderstorms swept through the region, and some spots were under a flood warning.

National Grid reported that about 4,000 customers were out of power on Saratoga Springs’ east side, and there were a scattering of outages elsewhere. The Rotterdam branch of the Schenectady County Public Library closed early due to an outage.

Restoration of power was expected by about 9 p.m., according to the utility.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Schenectady County and southeastern Saratoga County, with an inch of rain already having fallen as of 6 p.m., and another inch possible before the storms ended.
