Newsday's Battle of the Bands Contest 2017: Top 10 finalists – New York News

Thousands of votes by Newsday readers and Long Island music fans have narrowed the competition in Newsday’s Battle of the Bands Contest from 55 bands down to the Top 10 finalists.

Next up, a panel of music industry judges will choose from the finalists (the 10 bands who garnered the most reader votes) to crown the greatest music group rocking Nassau and Suffolk. Get to know each of the Top 10 bands below.

From the band: “We are a Long Island-based Funk outfit. LDF has recently been making a name for themselves throughout the East Coast. Also known as Ladies Drink Free, the group has adopted “LDF” to fit their new streamlined sound and brand. Their eclectic songwriting and eccentric stage banter energizes their consistent, unforgettable live performances that keep people dancing.

We are super excited to be applying this year! We just missed the deadline with our video last year, and we are psyched because we just finished filming this video and do not have it released yet!

A musical gumbo — we are a blend of gritty funk, R&B/soul, pop rock, and modern jazz that creates a bold sound laced with subtle nuances. With some members playing since their middle school days, the group has been driven to strike mainstream appeal while exploring new ideas through genre-pushing compositions and improvisation.
