A man was arrested earlier this week for prematurely removing a 10-year-old boy’s cast with a butter knife, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The boy had previously suffered a fractured wrist, according to a news release.
Richard J. Christian, 42, of Broome was arrested Monday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Schoharie County Sheriff Anthony Desmond said Christian is not related to the boy and he did not give a reason for removing the boy’s cast.
“They took the kid to the doctor’s without his cast on and the doctor said it had to stay on for another two weeks,” Desmond said Thursday.
Police were notified about the incident by the boy’s father. Desmond said the residence at which the incident happened is known to house multiple individuals, and Christian may have been visiting someone that lives at the property. No further information was available.
Christian was arraigned in Richmondville Town Court and is set to appear at a later date.
