SARATOGA SPRINGS — Jose Ortiz, who won the Saratoga Race Course riding title last year, took off his mounts after the fifth race on Thursday with an elbow injury.
He was taken to Saratoga Hospital for an X-ray, which came back negative for anything serious.
According to his agent Jimmy Riccio Jr., Ortiz felt something pop in his left elbow while riding Indy Union during the race, which went off at 3:15 p.m.
Less than two hours later, Ortiz tweeted “Took x rays of my elbow everything is good. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
He took the Saratoga riding title with 65 winners in 2016, a year after his brother Irad won his first Saratoga championship.
