FRANKFORT — Tractor Supply Co. will begin construction Tuesday in Frankfort on its largest distribution center with hopes to complete it by June 2018.
Tractor Supply initially planned to finish the 930,500-square-foot distribution center at the Frankfort 5S South Business Park by September. Stephen Smith, executive director of the Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency, said the date was changed to accommodate high demand for Tractor Supply’s Northeast locations.
Members of the county IDA voted Tuesday to authorize the project’s closing documents. Closing is set for Tuesday at the earliest, while officials said they expect Tractor Supply to acquire building permits with the next 30 days.
“We’re at the finish line — finally — on the project,” IDA attorney Anthony Hallak said.
The facility is expected to create 350 full-time jobs over the next six years, including 170 jobs within the first two years. Tractor Supply specializes in lawn and garden goods, outdoor equipment and similar products.
A ground-breaking ceremony has been thus far scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. In the meantime, contractors will continue to install new water and sewer lines over the next three weeks as part of an approximately $341,000 utility modification project, Smith said.
On Tuesday, IDA members extended the time allowed to Tractor Supply for project sales-tax exemptions. Stephen Smith, the IDA’s executive director, said the measure gives Tractor Supply the time to complete the project without having to return for an extension later on.
“It’s just a time-saving…
