ALBANY, N.Y. >> A citizen of Mexico, who was arrested in Saratoga Springs, was sentenced Friday for immigration fraud.
Santiago Cayetano-Diaz, 22, was sentenced to time served, a news release from the Department of Justice said.
As part of his guilty plea, Cayetano-Diaz admitted he had a counterfeit alien registration receipt card — commonly called a green card — in Saratoga Springs on May 30 when he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, the release said.
Cayetano-Diaz also admitted he was in the United States unlawfully.
After his sentencing, Cayetano-Diaz was placed in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security for removal proceedings, the release said.
Cayetano-Diaz was one of the more than 20 people picked up by ICE during a spate of arrests in May and June.
He is at least the fourth person to be sentenced as a result of the arrests. Three people were sentenced earlier this month for illegally re-entering the U.S., and they each face deportation proceedings.
