High Notes: Sept. 11, 2017 – New York News

In Saratoga Springs, the Saratoga Automobile Museum is hosting a two-day classic-car auction later this month, with proceeds going to help educational efforts to discourage people from distracted driving, such as texting. The auction, which will be held Sept. 22 and 23 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, will feature about 200 cars, as well as some boats and motorcycles. In the past, the museum has purchased simulators for local police agencies that they take around to schools to demonstrate the dangers of distracted driving. Officers also use the simulators for training. Each year in this country, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that involve a driver distracted in some manner. But by far, the culprit is texting, with more than 330,000 accidents caused by texting while driving. For information on the Saratoga Automobile Museum auction, visit www.saratogaautoauction.org.
