Not guilty plea for man accused of shooting at ex-girlfriend, endangering child – New York News

SCHENECTADY — A man accused of firing multiple times at his ex-girlfriend with their 2-year-old child nearby now faces an attempted-murder charge.

Kareem N. Taylor, 39, appeared in court Monday on an 11-count indictment. He pleaded not guilty and remains held.

Taylor is accused of opening fire on the woman early July 8. He fired nine times near Park Place and South Avenue as she fled in a car. Some of the shots hit the vehicle, but she was uninjured, prosecutor Kyle Petit said.

Taylor then got in his own car — with their 2-year-old daughter inside — and chased the woman before he crashed into an embankment near Seward Place and Nott Street, Petit said.

The toddler was in Taylor’s car as he fired on foot at the woman’s fleeing vehicle, officials said.

“Essentially the entire case is on video,” Petit said at Monday’s court appearance. “The shooting that is the subject of several counts was captured on street cameras, as well as the crash of his car with the toddler inside.”

Cameras also caught Taylor disposing of the gun over some hedges, Petit said.

Taylor faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, first-degree attempted assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, other weapons counts and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

If convicted on all counts, Taylor could potentially face more than 40 years in prison, Petit said. His criminal history could also mean he could face a sentence of life in prison.
