When there’s a life-size model of a cow on top of your restaurant, the menu options are limited. So when Ribeye Bros. Cheesesteaks in Island Park closed earlier this year, it was either a dairy shop or a burger stand.
Mike Aniano chose the latter. “I’d always wanted to open up a burger place in the neighborhood,” said the owner, who lives a few blocks away. “Something casual and not expensive — like All American in Massapequa, or In-N-Out on the West Coast.”
Moo Burger, which opened over the weekend, fulfills those requirements. The menu features seven burgers, the most expensive of which is the “Double Moo” with cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickle and special sauce ($3.85 for beef, $4 for turkey). There are also hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and tenders, chili, fries, ice cream and milkshakes ($3.75).
To run the kitchen, Aniano hired Terry Hasapoglou, who old Farmingdale salts may remember as the owner of Terry G’s Steak & Seafood Grill (2003 to 2011).
Most recently, Hasapoglou was co-owner of Rhumb Line in Greenport, which closed in 2016 and is now Andy’s. Suzanne Lynch is Moo Burger’s general manager.
Moo Burger is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
