2017 primary updates – New York News


BATH- Patrick McAllister defeated Chauncey J. Watches 2,765-2,509 in the Surrogate Court Judge race Tuesday night for the Republican primary nomination, according to unofficial results.

“I would like to thank all those who voted for me,” McAllister said. “It has been my pleasure to meet so many great people in Steuben County. I also would like to congratulate Chauncey Watches on a well-run campaign.”

Watches defeated McAllister 59-35 in the Conservative race and 71-46 in the Independence race meaning the two will meet again in the Nov. 7, general election for the 10 year term.

Both candidates are running to fill the vacancy left by Steuben County Judge Marianne Furfure, who will retire after 20 years on the bench.

Copp defeats Strong

CORNING – Shawn M. Copp defeated Donald Strong 25-2 Tuesday in the 1st Ward Republican race. Strong had said sometime before the primary election he no longer had interest in the position because of family health issues. Copp will face Democrat Diane Telehany in the Nov. 7, general election for the four year term.
