Week 2 high school football power rankings – New York News

Through two weeks of play in Section II football, here’s our look at the top five teams in each classification.


Troy (No. 1, 2-0) gets this spot until someone else does something about it. While both Saratoga (No. 2, 2-0) and Shaker (No. 3, 2-0) kept winning in Week 2, the Blue Streaks were more impressive in downing their top rival. Of course, that was Shenendehowa (No. 4, 1-1), which finishes its regular season with home games in four of its last five. Games against Shenendehowa and Troy — and one coming up in Week 3 against Saratoga Springs — aren’t making things easy for Guilderland (No. 5, 0-2), but the Dutchmen are a quality squad.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (No. 1, 2-0) might not see another serious challenge until it takes on Amsterdam (No. 2, 2-0) in Week 6 at home. After losing to Burnt Hills in Week 1, Queensbury (No. 3, 1-1) righted itself in Week 2 and now faces a stiff challenges in Week 3 playing at Amsterdam. South Glens Falls (No. 4, 2-0), off to a surprising start, gets a major chance to prove it’s for real when it heads to Averill Park (No. 5, 2-0) for this week’s game.

Coming off its undefeated season in 2016, Glens Falls (No. 1, 2-0) looks like it is just as good in 2017. The Indians might not see a major challenge until their Week 6 trip to Schuylerville (No. 2, 2-0) for a matchup of two teams likely to be undefeated at that point.
