Union bests Skidmore in U.S. News rankings – New York News

Union College ranked just above Skidmore College in the annual college rankings put out earlier this week by U.S. News and World Report.

Union ranked as the nation’s 36th-best liberal arts college; Skidmore came in at 41st. The two schools have finished somewhere between the high 30s and low 40s on the list for the past few years, with Union recently edging out Skidmore.

Union earned additional plaudits, ranking 29th for its engineering program among schools that don’t offer doctorates. Skidmore earned a spot on the lists for value and for offering a top-notch school for students who didn’t post super-high test scores and grade point averages in high school.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ranked as the 42nd-best national university — a list that includes many of the country’s most elite college — and scored high marks for participating in programs that support veterans looking to go to college.

SUNY Cobleskill for the second straight year ranked as the 17th-best regional college in the north, putting it in the company of schools like Cazenovia College and SUNY Delhi. The University at Albany ranked 151st in the national universities list.
