U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Sunday North Korea “will be destroyed” if it keeps up its “reckless behavior” as President Donald Trump prepares for the first time to address the U.N. General Assembly in New York this week.
“We were being responsible by trying to use every diplomatic possibility that we could possibly do. We have pretty much exhausted all the things that we could do at the Security Council at this point,” Haley said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

She said if diplomatic efforts failed, the situation would be handed over to Defense Secretary James Mattis: “I am perfectly happy taking this over to General Mattis because he has plenty of military options.”
Earlier this week North Korea launched another missile over Japanese airspace. The U.N. Security Council last week unanimously passed another round of sanctions, which Trump dismissed as “not a big deal.”
But Sunday morning, Trump tweeted that there are long gas lines in North Korea and he referred to North Korea’s president Kim Jong-il as “Rocket Man.”
